Fathers as Image Bearers

The presence and participation of the father changes everything.

When dad is angry or goes passive, the home goes dead.

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

1. A father is an image of _________ ______________. Our earthy dad paints a picture for us (in word and deed) of our Heavenly Father

Ephesians 6:4 in The Message: “Fathers, don’t exasperate your children by coming down hard on them. Take them by the hand and lead them in the way of the Master.”

2. The father has a _________ role.

“And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.” Malachi 4:6

3. Our heavenly Father loves and pursues us through God has only one love language.

What is God’s love language?

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son.” _____________________________________________________________

“21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him…. 23 If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.” (John 14:21, 23–24)
