Ep. 12 The Trials of a King

Apr 26, 2026    Rev. Jason Shambach

This week’s message reflects on the closing moments of David’s life and what Israel had come to understand after years of walking with God. As they looked back, they realized that every good thing they experienced, peace, provision, family, and security, came from the presence of the Lord.

And that realization stirred something deeper. Memories were not enough. They didn’t just want to remember what God had done, they wanted Him to remain with them.

That desire is what drove their generosity. As David prepared for the building of the temple, the people gave freely and joyfully, not out of obligation, but out of gratitude and a deep longing for God’s continued presence among them. Their giving was not about duty or transaction, but about worship.

This message challenges us to consider our own hearts. Do we simply appreciate what God has done in the past, or do we truly desire His presence in our lives and in our community today?

True generosity flows from gratitude and faith, trusting that what we offer to God, our time, resources, and lives, can be used by Him in meaningful ways. It is an invitation for God to move, not a way to control the outcome.

Ultimately, we are reminded that following God is not about holding onto memories, but about pursuing His presence right here and now.
